Voyageurs National Park
(MN). This conflict, which has brewed for over 40 years, revolves around resource protection versus use in this Minnesota national park.  In this case, consensus-building efforts were attempted, but ultimately proved to be unsuccessful.

Drake Chemical Superfund Site (PA).  Originally a manufacturer of chemical intermediates used in dyes, cosmetics, textiles, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides, Drake Chemical was designated a Superfund site. Conflict ensued over the safety of the remediation efforts, which included soil incineration.

Ohio EPA Anti-Degradation Standards for Water (Columbus, OH). A continuing controversy over the level and detection of contaminants in Ohio’s waters prompted the Ohio EPA to convene an ADR task force to address this issue.

Edwards Aquifer Project (San Antonio, TX). Edwards Aquifer is the underground water supply that serves as the sole source of drinking water for San Antonio, provides irrigation for agriculture in six Texas counties, is the main source for industry and recreational activities in three counties, and harbors unique water life at its base.
The Alton Park and Piney Woods Neighborhoods (Chattanooga, TN). These areas of Chattanooga present environmental justice issues over brownfield problems associated with an abandoned coking operation, approximately 40 hazardous waste sites, and a creek that has been declared a Superfund site, within the context of a city that has declared itself to be The Environmentally Sustainable City.

Colorado Front Range Growth-Related Conflicts (Boulder, El Paso, and Larimer Counties, CO). Communities along Colorado's Front Range Urban Corridor are struggling to deal with tensions between relentless population growth and the desire of citizens to protect and enhance their quality of life.

Doan Brook (Cleveland, OH).  Doan Brook is an urban watershed in metropolitan Cleveland that poses grave technical management problems, as well as safety and recreation challenges. Jurisdictional conflict arises over which problems are salient and which solutions are preferred by the affected municipalities and the Sewer District. 
Quincy Library Group (Quincy, CA).  This conflict began over logging practices on national forest land, and was resolved through local consensus-building efforts. It was re-opened, however, when challenged by national-level actors.
