Over the last 2½ years, EFC members conducted extensive analysis of qualitative data on eight intractable environmental conflicts

Data were collected for each site through interviews with individual stakeholders in the conflict, from archival materials, and from newspaper coverage when available. In four cases (Voyageurs, Doan Brook, Quincy Library and Ohio Water Anti-Degradation), observation of ongoing interactions among the stakeholders was also conducted, because stakeholders were meeting collectively from time to time to address various issues in the conflict.

Using these data, we prepared eight lengthy case studies (one for each conflict).
