Mission:

NMTB came into being to combat the excessive transportation snarls experienced by commuters to and within the region on a daily basis. We aim to rethink our current transportation usage by considering lessons and practices from other similarly sized urban areas to mitigate these traffic issues. By offering alternatives to single occupant automobile use, we aim to significantly reduce traffic issues so residents of Silver County can spend this valuable time with their families and friends and so the environment we have come to enjoy is not sacrificed by carbon monoxide pollution.

Interests:

  • work to improve the transportation facilities in the Silver County Region
  • work to broaden transportation alternatives including light rail, bus service, carpooling or ridesharing, bicycle and pedestrian trails, and commuter lanes.
  • promote "no drive days" where individuals will choose alternative forms of transportation over single occupancy vehicles.

Positions:

NMTB is in favor of the concentrated growth alternative offered by "smart plan." Members of this group feel that increased residential density will make transportation alternatives more viable if the regional transportation service can centralize its facilities and transportation offerings. This would alleviate traffic snarls that would likely result in more widespread growth alternative, especially since it would be costly and inefficient to provide mass transit services in outlying areas of the county where growth is proposed. They hope that people would forego buying vehicles and instead depend on a reliable and efficient transportation offered by bus, light rail, and bicycle travel.
