FuturePlan

Advocates of FuturePlan

Opponents of FuturePlan

This FuturePlan is based upon the current comprehensive plan, which, until now, has largely supported unregulated growth and development in the county. This plan proposes to disperse most new growth outside of the quickly-crowding urban areas of Vermillion and Silver Cliff toward the smaller, hillside towns of Mineral and Crimson. Since plans are already underway to develop these two areas, the FuturePlan includes the zoning of two additional planned developments, Crimson View and Mineral Mountain Village, outside of each of the original town sites. Such development would require building two additional roads into each of the developments to allow greater ease of travel to highway 128, which runs between the two larger urban areas. These two proposed roads, running north from Mineral and south from Crimson, would meet Rt. 128 between Vermillion and Silver Cliff at a proposed regional business complex, Wamanasa Center, which would provide essential goods and services to and accommodate the needs of the new residential developments. This second major development would include a high-profile shopping center, introducing to the region many new national chains for the first time. It would also feature a high-tech business park that is slated to bring in two prominent leaders in the computer technology industry. This development would involve widening 128 and would concentrate much of the commerce of the region to this newly-planned growth area. It would expand the existing small town of Wamassa to include new commercial and residential zoning.
