Mission

Our mission is to represent the goals an interests of the technology sector in Vermillion and the rest of Silver County to ensure the long term growth and survival of the technology industry in the region.

Interests

  • enhance the growth and vitality of the technological sector in Vermillion
  • promote greater connectivity of Vermillion residents, business and industry
  • seek to diversify the economy of the Silver County region

Positions

In favor of FuturePlan because any growth outside of Vermillion proper will enhance the growth of the technology sector throughout the region as a whole. As a result of dispersed growth in the region, a greater share of Silver County residents will have access to better bandwidth and connectivity. They feel that the region will benefit from technology anchoring the economy thus bringing more technological firms and start ups into the area. By diversifying the economy, the region will no longer be tied to the boom and bust of the traditional economies surrounding mining, agriculture, and ranching, argues Chip Wheeler, executive for VerTech a local technology firm. He states that "the rising tide of technology will lift all ships in the Silver County region" and posits that FuturePlan is a "win-win" situation for all parties involved because it will "significantly improve job prospects" for those representing "all skill and experience levels." Wheeler also argues that a high tech economy also leads to a stronger city infrastructure by bringing more money into the area and will attract more highly educated and younger workforce. This class of workers demand public services and amenities that will "greatly enhance the quality of life in the region."
