our economic base but have a commitment to investing in the existing

infrastructure

intervention
- Long range planning to ensure
future prosperity
Positions:
Favor FuturePlan but are wary
of growth restrictions and boundaries that would bind the decision making
of the business community. They don't want to lose their business stronghold
to the other region's communities. Ben Cartright, executive president
of the Silver Cliff Chamber of Commerce take a more conservative stance
toward growth and development in the region and is wary of jumping on
the technology bandwagon. He feels that though diversifying the region's
economic base is a solid strategy, an over reliance on technology could
come at the cost of traditional industries like mining, farming, and ranching.
Cartright feels that if the region becomes a magnet for the tech industry,
it may displace existing residents and ultimately drive up property costs
to levels that are unaffordable to most of the industrial and service
workers who have lived and worked in the region for decades. |
