Wetlands area of Wamasana Bottom. This area is a hotbed of contention due to the proposed Wamasana Center shopping development. Because of its central location directly between Vermillion and Silver Cliff, developers see this space as a prime region in which to build a regional shopping center. Since the region does not currently have the shopping and service amenities that other urban areas have, citizens have been clamoring for such a development to be built. However environmentalists are livid that such a plan has progresses as far as it has because of the sensitive ecosystem that surrounds the development area. They feel that the increased traffic and pollution, not to mention the actual physical destruction of the wetland habitat, would have disasterous and irreparable effects on the natural wildlife and native grasslands.
