Mission
To protect and preserve the history and heritage of the region through
the protection and classification of properties, structures, and buildings
that contribute to the historical legacy and character the Silver Cliff.
Through these efforts, we wish to make Silver Cliff a welcoming destination
place for visitors and tourists drawn to the region for its unique character.
Interests
- seek funds to protect historical
properties from harmful development, refurbishment, or demolition
- to enhance and protect sites
of historical significance relevant to the Silver County community
- to protect the long term
interests and stability of the region's growing tourist industry
- to protect the natural environment
that draws tourists into the region
Positions
The SCHTB favors FuturePlan.
They feel that by keeping growth contained largely within an urban growth
boundary, more investment will be poured into the historic central business
districts of both Silver Cliff and Vermillion. Though worried that rapid
and widespread growth could make it difficult for the board to mobilize
enough resources to save and protect endangered, historic buildings and
sites they feel that contiguous growth would be preferable to more diffuse
growth because more money would be available to protect and restore the
historical character of the region. Additionally, Lucy Lucky, the Board
President feels that widespread growth outside of the urban areas would
put multiple mining, agricultural, and ranching sites under the threat
of development. Smaller towns and jurisdictions would also be ill equipped
to restore their cultural heritage in light of these developments due
to a lack of resources and representation. Already, the historic Old Town
Wamasanna would be literally obliterated and surrounded by sprawling growth
introduced by the new regional shopping center.
