Mission:
We feel that the environment should be protected without compromise.
Pure Nature takes a decidedly different approach towards environmental
issues. We believe in using all the resources we have at hand, ranging
from grassroots organizing and involvement in the legal process to civil
disobedience and monkey-wrenching. We feel that compromise will continue
to play into the hands of more powerful, monied interests that seek to
gain from widespread growth, development, and resource extraction and
therefore take a stance of radical environmental protection.
Interests:
- accept no compromise when
it comes to the environment
- protect all life in all
of its forms, whatever it takes
- organize tree sits to prevent
the logging of forest land
- work to restrict all vehicle
travel from non-residential roads in the forest area
- seek alternative energy
sources and reduce reliance on water and other resources
Positions:
Pure Nature advocates neither
FuturePlan or SmartPlan. Instead, they advocate what they call FuturePlan
(their own creation). They feel that both plans are fundamentally flawed
in that they allow for destructive levels of environmental encroachment
and destruction. They strongly oppose the widespread and largely unregulated
growth that FuturePlan would allow and feel that FuturePlan would overburden
the resources that local environment is able to support (including clean
air and water). Their FuturePlan includes a radical rethinking of urban
design and resource use. They feel that automobiles should be replaced
by mass transit systems and pedestrian friendly transportation like bicycling
should be given priority over current vehicle use. Also, instead of relying
on natural resources like coal and petroleum to power the cities buildings
and industries, the city should utilize recent advances in wind, hydrogen,
and solar power to eliminate the majority of pollutants and byproducts
produced by current energy sources. Certain members of the group have
been cited as stating that if FuturePlan goes into effect, Pure Nature
will "do everything in their powe"r to ensure that their position
is heard and growth is "brought to a screeching halt."
